about

Addie Studebaker is a practicing artist based in Alaska's Mat-Su Valley who is given to writing about herself in third person on a barely-used website, as is the custom of these art-ing times.

She is also an occasional freelance writer and teaches English and writing classes for University of Alaska.

Here are a few things she is currently excited about and into:

sound solutions

I design & help create spaces that are visually interesting, unique, beautiful, and inviting, with the added advantage of mitigating unwanted echo.  I work with clients to determine the level of sound-absorption needed, provide mock-ups and design consultation, and then source the best materials for their budget.  I fabricate and install the multi-dimensional, sound-mitigating "murals" on an agreed upon timeline.  Please email addiestudebaker@gmail.com for more information.  **Gallery of completed projects coming soon**

My paper sculptures have been exhibited and commissioned around the United States and have been collected internationally.  I like to use found and repurposed materials as much as possible in my paper work, and am always looking to highlight the unique properties of the material using the dynamism of light and shadow. I like to test the structural limits of the materials in contemplating their ephemerality - how they age, their past, present, and future lives - and to consider where they overlap with our own.    *to see examples of commissioned work, please go here*

color & chaos

Painting and sketching are the most visceral and personal part of my art practice and something I mostly do for my own enjoyment, although I have taken on commissions. When painting, I work primarily in watercolor and acrylic. My painting work has varied from large-scale murals to pieces in miniature. You can check here for upcoming exhibitions, markets, shows, and other updates.  If you're interested in browsing original pieces and prints, you can find those here, when available.

neat people doing neat things

I'm excited about art, as well as agriculture & local food movements in Alaska.  My work (editorials, essays, interviews, poetry, photography) has been published  in Edible AlaskaAlaska Magazine, FORUM,  and others (published work listed here).
